via Romea del Chianti: The Pilgrimage Trail to Rome

Tramonti is on the via Romea del Chianti, a historical road used by pilgrims en route to Rome. The itinerary begins in Florence and passes through the Chianti area for 70 Km. Then in Siena this road meets the via Francigena (coming from France) and leads to Rome.  This was a safe passage very frequently used by pilgrims. When you look at the image of the map, Tramonti is on the main path (violet line).  The path crosses onto the property and lies only a few hundred feet from the villa!
